The initial protection mechanism consists of providing threatened individuals with temporary (90 days) exit from the territory in order to avoid attacks against them and to free them from the pressure of the possibility of being killed. Support will be provided to them with the aim of: a) improving their capacity to make demands (organisational, technical, logistical); and b) expanding their support networks at the international level.
Once the de-pressurisation period is over, it is necessary to explore and implement all options to neutralise the possibility of any aggression during the return of each human rights defender. This can be done with ‘Protective Accompaniment’ through inter-institutional cooperation with various organisations such as Peace Brigades International (PBI), Peace Watch Switzerland, Witness For Peace, and International Action For Peace. Finally, to accompany the community processes around these defenders, it is important to design and implement non-violence self-protection measures.
