On April 5th 2019 more than 500 protesters from all over Europe marched in front of the International Criminal Court in the Hague to denounce the systematic murder of community leaders in Colombia. In this context many conversations were had. As Colombian expats living in the Netherlands, we were able to witness the lack of awareness in international circles about the severity of the problem in Colombia. This realization, together with a documented increase in violence against community leaders, created a sense of urgency and clear case for action on our behalf. We couldn’t watch our country fall to ruin and standby from the comfort of our new home in Europe. United by a sense of frustration and despair, but also an immense love for Colombia and her future, they decided to do something collectively under the name Citizen Diplomacy 5-A.
